Family Explorer – duration: 7 Days / 6 Nights

Day 1: Cape Town

On arrival in Cape Town, you will be greeted and met by our professional and local representative, who will assist you with your transfer to your accommodation. Your base for the next three nights. Your stay in Cape Town is completely at leisure for you to choose how to spend your time. Weather permitting, you might also choose to take the cable car up to the top of iconic Table Mountain for fantastic views.

DAY 2-3: CAPE TOWN

After your breakfast at the hotel, enjoy two further days at leisure in Cape Town. Perhaps take a Cape Peninsula tour and journey via the scenic Chapman’s Peak Pass (if the road is open) towards Cape Point, stopping off at Cape Point Ostrich Farm. Simon's Town is home to Boulders Beach, which holds a real treat: a colony of penguins in their natural habitat, with wooden walkways for you to explore and a visitors centre full of information. Or you could discover the Winelands and the delightful scenery and produce they have to offer on a tour north towards Paarl, Stellenbosch and Franschhoek.

Day 4: Cape Town to Sanbona Wildlife Reserve

Today, drive (approx. three hours) along the scenic Route 62 to Sanbona Wildlife Reserve: one of the largest privately owned game reserves in South Africa. We recommend leaving your Cape Town accommodation at approx. 8.30am in order to arrive at the Sanbona main gate by 12pm (summer) or 12.30pm (winter) to ensure time for an afternoon game drive. Leave your hire car at the gate and embark on your transfer to enter the reserve (transfers must be booked at least 72 hours in advance). Your accommodation here is at Gondwana Lodge - resembling a traditional thatched Karoo homestead, with far-reaching views across the plains and mountains, and especially for families. Enjoy lunch followed by an afternoon game drive, where you may see wildlife including lion, elephant, leopard, buffalo, white rhino, jackal, zebra, cheetah, giraffe, klipspringer and hippo. The endangered riverine rabbit can also be found here. Returning to the lodge from the afternoon game drive offers spectacular displays of light as the sun sets over the Little Karoo.

Days 5-6: Sanbona Wildlife Reserve

Enjoy two full days at Sanbona Wildlife Reserve. Awake early, easing into the day with tea, coffee and pastries, before your morning game drive departs. Return to the lodge for lunch before embarking on another thrilling game drive seeking out the wildlife of the Karoo.

Day 7: Sanbona Wildlife Reserve to Cape Town

A final early wake-up call for one last game drive before returning to the lodge for breakfast. Transfer back to Cape Town airport for your flight back home with happy memories of your journey to South Africa.
