ImperiAl Cities of Morocco – duration: 8 Days / 7 Nights

Day 1: Marrakech

Upon arrival in Marrakech, you will be met and greeted by our professional local representative, who will assist you with your transfer to your hotel of choice for your three night stay - well located hotels which are reachable with easy access to Marrakech’s key sites, however conveniently placed just outside of the Medina, making a tranquil retreat. Here, you’ll enjoy a delicious cup of traditional mint tea before dinner at the hotel. Nestled between mountain and desert, it’s unsurprising to find that Marrakech is a city of contrasts. The bustling atmosphere of the Djemaa el-Fna is far removed from the tranquillity of the many beautiful gardens, and the Medina’s intricate medieval streets wonderfully contradict the wide, tree-lined boulevards of the New Town. Everywhere, the city’s infectious charm shines through. Stay: Les Jardins de la Kotoubia hotel or the Sofitel Marrakech.

Day 2: Marrakech

Today after your breakfast, visit the Majorelle Gardens, Old Medina and the Kasbah fortress, before visiting the Bahia Palace and a stroll through the Djemaa el-Fna square. In the afternoon, head to Marrakech’s colourful souqs, followed by a welcome dinner in the evening at a local restaurant offering the opportunity to try local cuisine.

Day 3: Marrakech

After breakfast, you will visit the weekly Berber souk, before continuing along the rivers through the foothill of the mountains, where you will be able to visit a Berber home. Native to North Africa, these fascinating tribes are traditionally characterised as nomadic people that reside outside Marrakech in the Atlas Mountains. However, today, Berbers often own farms amidst the valleys and mountains.

Day 4: Marrakech to Fes

After breakfast, enjoy a full day's drive (354 miles) through cedar forests to Fes, where you will stay for two nights at the Palais Oumayad or similar. Enjoying an ideal location just outside of the Medina, this is a beautifully restored riad and makes an enjoyable and extremely traditional stay with only 28 rooms. You'll also have a lunch stop in Midelt for a fantastic chance to immerse yourself into Moroccan culture through cuisine at Kasbah Asmaa.

Day 5: Fes

Enjoy a full day's sightseeing in Fes, where you will visit the 14th- Century religious schools (mederast) of Bou Inanina and Attarine. Stop for a brief photo opportunity at the gate of Bab Bojloud and the fountain at Palace Neijarine and visit the souks within the charming medina.

Day 6: Fes to Rabat

After breakfast, you'll head out on a lengthy drive (118 miles) from Fes to Volubilis, where you will see the Roman ruins, before heading to nearby Meknes for a further tour of this imperial city within Morocco. Here, you’ll have the chance to visit the Agudal Basin, the Moulay Ismail stables, the Moulay Ismail Mausoleum and the medina. In the afternoon, you’ll transfer to the Tour Hassan or similar in Rabat for the night.

Day 7: Rabat to Marrakech

Enjoy breakfast in Rabat before a morning of sightseeing which includes a visit to the Oudayas, the Hassan Tower and the Chellah, as well as a journey to the Mohamad V Mausoleum and the government district. Your afternoon’s tour will include one of the highlights of your journey - a voyage to Marrakech from Rabat by train. This is a real opportunity to interact with local people, and although the journey may be lengthy - it offers a different perspective of Moroccan culture as you get a different insight into the destination. Please note, this itinerary does not stop in Casablanca. Upon arrival in Marrakech, you will transfer to your hotel for the final overnight stay with dinner amongst your fellow passengers.

Day 8: Marrakech

This morning, you will transfer to the airport for your onward journey after breakfast at the hotel. Alternatively, you could extend your stay in this exciting city.
