Self Drive in Croatia - duration: 8 Days / 7 Nights

Day 1: Dubrovnik

Arrive in Dubrovnik by air, pick up your car and transfer to your hotel. Check-in. Afternoon, drive to the coastal highway for a panoramic view of the city walls, ancient roof tops and the picturesque surroundings. Enjoy a walking tour of the city, which is on UNESCO's list of World Patrimony, due to its exceptional beauty and its rich cultural heritage. This ancient town, surrounded by strong ramparts and fortresses, is a treasure trove of architectural and cultural masterpieces, scrupulously preserved over the centuries. A pleasant walk will take you to the Rector's Palace, the Dominican Monastery and to other places of interest. Return to your hotel for overnight.

Day 2: Dubrovnik (Villages of Cipili, Popovici and Radovcici)

Breakfast. Drive to the Village of Cipili to enjoy the local music with traditional dances and costumes. The village of Cipili is well-known for its carefully preserved popular customs, rich folk costumes and its famous embroidery. At the Sunday Fair, you can buy original traditional souvenirs of the area, such as silk embroidery, or attend the Holy Mass at St. Nicholas' church and see the village people in their traditional folk costumes. You can witness a Mass, after which there will be a folklore dance in front of the church, performed by the village people and accompanied by Dalmatian music.

Then drive through the villages of Popovici and Radovcici. Stop at Molunat for a photo. Enjoy lunch at the restaurant Konavoski Dvori, preceded by a traditional Konavle welcome of local brandy and dried figs. Time passes quickly in such a rustic ambience, with the sound of the swift river, lined with greenery and with tasty traditional cuisine of the area. A visit to the gallery of the local painter Mijo Sisa Konavljanin in the village of Mihanici will complete this memorable and highly enjoyable excursion. Return to Dubrovnik for overnight stay.

Day 3: Dubrovnik - Split

Breakfast. Check-out of hotel and drive to Split. Arrive and check-in to your hotel. Rest of the day at leisure. Overnight.

Day 4: Split (City Sightseeing + Diocletian Palace)

Breakfast. Start the day with a drive round the city with 9 stops to visit places of interest. Start from the Riva in the heart of Split. The Riva promenade, the Bacvice sandy beach with its restaurants and bars, Gripe Maritime Muskmelon, pass the Sports Centre and the Archeological Muskmelon. Then on to Park Emanuel Vidovic, Poljud Stadium, The Franciscan Monastery and St Anthony's Church. Proceed to the protected Bene Park with its beach, restaurant, recreational centre and children's fun park.

Drive past the Kastelet Gallery of Ivan Mestrovic, the Muskmelon of Croatian Archeological Monuments and the Zvoncac Sustipan and ACI Marina. End with St Francis Church and the Monastery of St Francis.

After lunch, visit the UNESCO listed Diocletian Palace where you will see the Bronze Gate, Diocletian's Cellars, the Peristyle, the Vestibule of the Emperor's Palace, The Mausoleum, St Djuam's Cathedral and the Temple of Jupiter and Bapistery. Then on to the Silver Gate, the Papalic Palace, St Martins Church and the Golden Gate. End the tour via the Chapel of St Amir, People's Square and the Iron Gate. Return to your hotel for overnight stay.

Day 5: Split - Plitvice (National Park)

Breakfast. Drive to Plitvice. The mountains around the Plitvice area are thickly wooded and are home to the Plitvice Lakes consisting of 16 terraced, crystal clear lakes which are all connected to each other. This area was proclaimed a National Park in 1949. It is one of the biggest National Parks in Croatia. Check-in to your hotel. Rest of the day at leisure. Overnight.

Day 6: Plitvice - Zagreb (Walking Tour)

Breakfast. Drive to Zagreb. Arrive and check-in to your hotel. Afternoon, enjoy a walking tour of Zagreb by seeing the fortified, medieval upper town, St Mark's church with its multi-colored tile roof, the baroque church of St Catherine, the Cathedral of St Stephen and the Parliament with the Government Palace. In the lower city, stretching around the main square with the statue of Ban Jelacic, see the 19th century National Theater, Museum of Arts and Craft, the University and the beautiful Zrinjevac Park with numerous elaborate Secession (Art Nouveau) buildings. Overnight.

Day 7: Zagreb (Zagorje Castle Tour)

Breakfast. Drive to Zagorje, a famous castle and wine region. You will reach Trakoscan, followed by Pregrada and Veliki Tabor, where you can choose to have lunch at the Gresna Gorica restaurant from where you will have a great view of the Veliki Tabor Castle - Kumrovec (birth place of the former Yugoslav president Tito, but now a lovely museum). Return to Zagreb for overnight stay.

Day 8: Zagreb

Breakfast. Check-out and transfer to Zagreb airport. Drop off your car. Depart with beautiful memories of a wonderful week in Croatia.
